Is your dog ruling your life?   “There’s Hope!”

Let Mark German, America’s Dog Whisperer, show you how to be the leader of your pack!

Canine Behavior Specialist, Mark German, MBA, is a man with a serious mission. Recently profiled on Good Morning, Arizona and the Pat McMahon Show, Mark is working to get the word out to all dog owners: There’s Hope!© He would like to bring this awareness to everyone who loves their dog but struggles with out-of-control behaviors like jumping, barking, lunging, aggression, and shyness. There is no dog Mark won’t work with – “as long as the owner is willing to change.” He believes that practicing a calm energy with your dog is the first step to taking back control. At his symposiums, he points to statistics that show most people give up their dogs because of behavior issues, and he would like to change that. Mark feels that if people treated their dogs, like…well dogs, most behavioral issues would subside. That’s not to say he thinks we shouldn’t be affectionate with our pets. Mark advises that owners follow The Four Essentials to a Stable Dog©. “I know of people who can’t even have guests over to their house because of unruly dogs. I can show people how to change that and get their lives back.”

Mark has been training owners and rehabilitating their dogs for over 14 years. “It’s all about the energy” is his mantra.

“It is frustrating to see people who work with dogs, obedience trainers, handlers, humane society employees, veterinarians and staff, and even some ‘behaviorists’, treat dogs in a way that is detrimental to the dog’s state of mind. It’s neither constructive nor necessary to get angry or mean with dogs.

Leadership is about using one’s energy to stay in control, not man-handle a dog.  We must remain calm and remember that we are always teaching our dogs our rules not training them.”

America’s Dog Whisperer, Mark German, MBA is available for private consultations, group demonstrations, and symposiums to help any organization learn how to rehabilitate and handle dogs properly. He also presents mini-seminars to teach children how to remain calm when faced with a stray or seemingly dangerous unsupervised dog.

In his book, There’s Hope!  Mark focuses on:

Practice kindness, save a life...change the world

I need a good home

Tara's Babies Animal Welfare was born in the floodwaters of New Orleans in the days following Hurricane Katrina when a small group of volunteers, horrified by the situation, went to help in the animal rescue effort. Working on their own, and in cooperation with Best Friends, they were part of the massive round-the-clock pet rescue effort. At the same time, a small team in Arizona quickly built emergency pet shelters. Over 130 dogs and cats were either driven or airlifted to this new sanctuary on former ranch land outside Payson, Arizona. With the support of countless volunteers and generous donors, the animals were cared for with constant love and kindness.

Teaching children how to remain calm around potentially dangerous or loose dogs.

Mark has had the opportunity to meet Cesar Millan and they both share the same common goal:  To help as many dogs as possible from being put to sleep for behavioral issues such as aggression, fear and the list goes on.  Since the success of National Geographic’s Dog Whisperer®, people throughout the country are beginning to understand that dogs aren’t 4-legged kids. People are starting to realize that their dogs DO have issues that obedience did not change.  Mark saves dog's lives. Dogs are a different species altogether with needs different from those of humans. Mark teaches owners how to utilize their calm energy to become the pack leaders, thereby allowing dogs to become calm and submissive within the dog-human pack.

I wanted to thank you so very much for your workshops in Iowa. My husband and daughter and I are amazed at the changes in our dogs and the shelter dogs once we started using some of the simple techniques we learned from you. My lunging dogs now walk calmly by my side. The shelter dogs enter the building on leash calmly and quietly. My daughter said, "this is so simple, it's spooky."
Catch phrases heard in our household now: "stop looking at that dog!" "Correct and ignore!" Our dogs are getting the message. Entering our house used to create pandemonium, dogs jumping, barking, things crashing because of wagging tails. Now I walk through the door, past quiet dogs standing at attention. I can talk to my husband without dogs thrusting noses and paws at me. The dogs just settle down and rest on the floor.
While you were in Iowa, a terrible incident occurred in our town. A 6 month old Labrador puppy was shot and killed by a neighbor who thought the pup barked too much. The man didn't intend to kill the pup, just wanted to sting it with a pellet gun to make it be quiet. But the pellet went through the dog's lung and lodged in its heart. It died a few hours after being shot. Apparently this man had called the police several times but the behavior didn't change. (If someone shot one of my dogs, the shooter would be in the hospital and I'd be in jail for assault -- I realize that is not "calm assertive" behavior, gotta work on that.) But I was thinking, what if our town had a certified canine behaviorist - could the police contact that person for help in these kinds of situations? Do you ever work with the police?
I would love to learn to do what you do. I know I have a lot to learn, but I feel very strongly about this. I've commented to my coworkers at our animal shelter that we should invite you to teach us how to be good pack leaders. (I have given your information to our shelter board president & discussed arranging a workshop with Mark.) Meeting you and Mark was like a dream come true, I have been craving this kind of information and learning opportunity.
